Unfamiliar faces....

I was walking across empty, barren land. Not a soul was in sight, the howls from the wind and my steady footsteps were the only sounds that echoed in my ears. I was scared, afraid not knowing what lied ahead but I kept walking. I said to myself that I would walk as far as my legs could carry me, hoping to find a face that is familiar. I finally saw a sign of reassurance, a tiny cloud of smoke close by. Not knowing what to expect I walked forward, my legs trembling with each step. I looked ahead and saw a small boy about my age, I felt as if I knew him and slowly, without my knowledge, began to walk towards him. But no one was there, there was no smoke and there was no boy. Who or what I had seen? Had I seen nothing? Defeated, I didn't know what to do next. All I could see were unfamiliar faces.....
